Center the visit on Gyeongbokgung Palace, connecting its west gate with Tongin Market. After spending time inside the palace, adjust how much of Seochon’s alleys and market you explore.

Gwanghwamun Square → Gyeongbokgung Palace → Seochon and Tongin Market
Gyeongbokgung Palace → National Palace Museum of Korea (royal culture instead of Seochon)
Gyeongbokgung Palace → National Folk Museum of Korea, Seoul Main Building (folk culture instead of Seochon)
Only the stated optional and alternative stops are distinguished. This is not a plan to add every alternative and visit them all at once. The options are not a count of distinct attractions or a popularity ranking. Check the operating, admission and booking conditions below as well.
If You Prefer an Indoor Cultural Visit
The places below are not all required additions to the base itinerary. Choose one option above to replace the walking segment. Each venue has separate closure, booking and ticket conditions, and travel times for the added connections have not yet been verified.
The Korean and English National Palace Museum of Korea signs and building exterior were verified in the image. The 6,000 × 4,000 JPEG original was resized with sips to 1,280 × 853; no crop or compositing was applied. Retain source, creator and license credits and note the resize. The image may be cropped to fit its display area. The photo license is the one linked above.
This option reduces the Seochon walk in favor of a royal-culture exhibition. Distinguish Gyeongbokgung Palace admission from general museum entry and bookings for educational programs or activities.
Opening and Visitor Hours
Monday–Friday and Sunday, 09:30–17:30. Saturdays and the last Wednesday of each month, 09:30–21:00. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing.
Closures and Exceptions
Check the information below and official notices for holiday, monthly and temporary closures.
Booking and Admission Conditions
General exhibitions are free, and advance booking is not indicated for regular individual admission. Check separately for student groups of 30 or more and bookings for educational programs or activities.
Closed on the last Monday of each month, January 1, Lunar New Year’s Day and Chuseok Day. If the last Monday is a public holiday, check the official substitute-closure rule. The museum is not closed every Monday.
The FAQ still contains older information listing 10:00–18:00 hours and evening opening every Wednesday and Saturday. The current visitor guide and main page agree on 09:30–17:30 hours and the last-Wednesday rule, which take precedence.
Do not conflate this Seoul museum’s hours or closure rules with those of another site, such as the Museum of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty.
A notice about temporary museum-shop operations is not interpreted as a closure of the entire museum. It does not guarantee that a particular permanent gallery or educational program can be booked.
The Seoul Tourism Organization’s individual record identifies the National Folk Museum of Korea in Jongno-gu and shows KOGL Type 1. The publicly provided 852 × 568 JPEG was downloaded without changes; distinguish this from the listed original resolution of 6,720 × 4,480. The image shows a wall, trees, low buildings and a walking path; do not describe it as a photo of the museum’s central tower building. The photo date cannot be confirmed, so it is null. The image may be cropped to fit its display area. The photo license is the one linked above.
The individual record identifies the National Folk Museum of Korea in Jongno-gu and shows KOGL Type 1. The publicly provided 852 × 1,277 JPEG was downloaded without changes. The image shows a recreated old street and a costume-shop sign; it is not described as a museum-building view. The copy must also state that access inside the outdoor exhibition is restricted on weekends and public holidays. The photo date cannot be confirmed, so it is null. The image may be cropped to fit its display area. The photo license is the one linked above.
After visiting Gyeongbokgung, choose this alternative to explore exhibitions on Korean life and customs instead of walking through Seochon. This is not an itinerary to add both museums; choose one of the two.
Opening and Visitor Hours
March–October, 09:00–18:00; November–February, 09:00–17:00. On Wednesdays from March–October, open until 20:00. Last admission is one hour before closing.
Closures and Exceptions
Check the information below and official notices for holiday, monthly and temporary closures.
Booking and Admission Conditions
General admission to the main museum is free. Check separate booking and inquiry requirements for the Children’s Museum, educational programs and guided tours for groups of 10 or more.
The Seoul Main Building is closed on January 1, Lunar New Year’s Day and Chuseok Day; it is not listed as regularly closed on Mondays. Do not confuse its hours with the Paju branch’s schedule and Monday closure.
Permanent Exhibition Hall 1 is scheduled to close from 2026-09-30 to 2026-12-21, with reopening planned for 12-22. Do not describe this as a closure of the entire museum or imply that all permanent galleries are currently open.
For safety reasons, access inside the outdoor exhibition is restricted on weekends and public holidays. Do not broaden this to say the entire outdoor area is closed.
The museum is free, but Gyeongbokgung Palace has separate paid admission. A Children’s Museum booking does not replace admission to the main building.
The palace and folk-museum photos show alternative stops chosen instead of Seochon. Neither museum is a required addition, and both are not intended to be visited together. The folk museum’s outdoor old-street photo does not guarantee access inside on current weekends or public holidays.

Do I need a reservation for the Gyeongbokgung and Seochon solo walk?
General daytime admission is available on site. Check separate booking terms for night and special visits.
Do the travel times for the Gyeongbokgung and Seochon solo walk cover the entire outing?
No. They show only the walking segments between representative start and end points; time inside attractions, waiting, meals and breaks are additional. Total visit duration is an editorial suggestion. Travel times connecting optional or alternative stops have not been separately verified.
What should I check before taking the Gyeongbokgung and Seochon solo walk?
If the palace’s regular closure day falls on a public holiday or substitute holiday, it opens that day and closes on the next non-holiday. Hours and closing days for Seochon shops and individual Tongin Market stalls have not been confirmed.
The Commons file’s Seoul branch description, coordinates, photo date and CC BY 4.0 license were checked. The exterior photo was opened and checked; the marker on the right reads National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul. This is not the Gwacheon or Cheongju branch. The 1,600 × 1,067 JPEG original was resized with sips to 1,280 × 853; no crop or compositing was applied. Credit the source and license and note the resize. The image may be cropped to fit its display area. The photo license is the one linked above.
Choose an exhibition of interest at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, then continue along Samcheong-ro. Rather than trying to see several exhibitions, adjust the balance between viewing art and walking around the neighborhood.

The individual record title “Sewoon Arcade,” CID ARP007lb1, Jongno-gu/Sewoon Arcade/Jongmyo Park tags, and KOGL Type 1 permission for commercial use and modification were checked. The photo visibly shows the steps, pedestrian deck and greenery at Jongmyo across the way. Describe it accurately as a deck view, not a full facade shot. The official resized 852 × 570 version was downloaded; no further local conversion was made. Distinguish the source image’s 6,000 × 4,017 resolution from the smaller file actually downloaded. The image may be cropped to fit its display area. The photo license is the one linked above.
This downtown walking itinerary links the outdoor scenery around Sewoon Arcade, Euljiro streets and Cheonggyecheon. It does not require going to the arcade rooftop or entering a particular shop, so you can shorten the route depending on what is open.

Reuse the photo from src/market-guide-render.mjs without changes. The Commons file’s Mangwon Market description, coordinates, photo date and CC0 permission for commercial use were checked. Reuse of the previously approved local WebP is proposed. N Seoul Tower’s shape, Namsan and downtown buildings were verified in the image. Move from Myeong-dong’s cityscape to Namsan for views of Seoul. The tower’s paid observation deck is optional, and the mountain path is not presented as a short, level stroll. Namsan complements the city scenery rather than serving as a heritage visit in itself.
